Academic Staff at St. Mary’s Join CAUT

CAUT Council delegates voted last month to accept the membership application of St. Mary’s University College Faculty Association, representing 54 full and part-time academic staff employed at the Catholic, liberal arts and sciences teaching and research institution located in Calgary.

“I was elected to my post two years ago with a mandate to pursue membership in CAUT,” said faculty association president Patrick Finn. “An information meeting was held recently to go over membership details, and there was enough positive response out of that meeting to put the proposal to a vote. All voted in favour of joining CAUT.”

St. Mary’s joins 65 other academic staff associations and two federated organizations in CAUT membership.

“We are very pleased with this opportunity to welcome the St. Mary’s association,” said CAUT executive director James Turk. “Their membership brings new talent and ideas and serves to strengthen the association as a whole. It’s a valuable addition to our network and we look forward to working together on the important issues facing academic staff at St. Mary’s and across Canada.”
