New Appointments

Paula Turtle, General Counsel and Christopher Schulz, Legal Officer

CAUT’s new general counsel is Paula Turtle, who formerly was senior counsel to the United Steelworkers. Paula started in July, and will replace Mariette Pilon, who is leaving CAUT at the end of the year. At the Steelworkers, Paula headed the union’s six-lawyer legal department. She holds an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in communications from Ryerson University. While at the Steelworkers, she was a guest lecturer and presenter at various universities and events. Most recently she developed and taught a third year politics course at Ryerson and in 2011 was appointed to serve on the Ontario Labour Relations Board advisory committee.

Also joining CAUT’s legal department is Christopher Schulz, who started Sept. 9. Prior to coming to CAUT, Christopher worked in the legal department of the Public Service Alliance of Canada. He has a BA from Concordia University, an LLB from the University of Ottawa, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2011. He articled with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, and, interspersed with his law school education, completed a semester internship with the Public Service Labour Relations Board and worked in the communications departments at the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and the Canadian Federation of Nurses Union. Christopher speaks English, French and German.
