Decisive Victory for U.S. Contract Academics

Part-time academic staff won an important victory recently when a Washington state court ruled that work part-timers do outside the classroom must be counted toward their retirement benefits. The court said, that in addition to class time, institutions must count the hours part-timers spend preparing for class, advising students and grading papers when determining eligibility for retirement benefits.
