Tens of thousands of postcards urging the federal government to increase funding for post-secondary education have been flooding CAUT's office from all across the country.
The postcards are part of an effort spearheaded by CAUT and its local associations to raise awareness of the need for increased public investment in universities and colleges after a decade of budget cutbacks.
"The response to the campaign has exceeded our most optimistic expectations," said CAUT president Tom Booth.
"This has really hit a nerve out there. People are tremendously concerned about the future of post-secondary education in this country."
Booth warned that funding cuts are diminishing the quality of Canada's universities and colleges and that rising student fees are limiting access.
"Everyone who's signed a postcard knows the current situation is simply not sustainable. If we're not careful, we risk causing irreparable damage to our education system and of jeopardizing the future of our young people."
With a federal election now underway, Booth is hopeful the public profile the postcard campaign has will ensure that education issues get the prominence they deserve.
"The sheer number of cards arriving in our office should make all five political parties stand up and take notice."
CAUT distributed 100,000 'Fund the Future' postcards nationwide earlier this fall.
