Council Celebrates 50th Anniversary

CAUT marked the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1951 with special events at the 50th Council meeting held in April. Guest appearances by former presidents Howard McCurdy (196668), Ken McGovern (198283), Pamela Smith (198890), William Bruneau (199698) and former executive director Donald Savage (197398) highlighted the occasion. Delegates were treated to the unveiling of the 50th anniversary CAUT banner, depicting the work of CAUT members. The banner was made by artists Carole Conde and Karl Beveridge. Members and guests then moved to the National Press Club for a lively and entertaining celebration dinner with guest speakers Michael Conlon, national chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students, and Jan Eastman, North American representative on the Education International executive.
