On Oct. 19, CAUT launched its Grievance Handling Workshop at Lakehead University. The day and a half course offers basic training to faculty association members in the art of investigating, filing and negotiating grievances. Lakehead University Faculty Association president Glenna Knutson says her association, like many others, is facing the retirement of its core activists. "We need to develop a new generation of grievance officers," she said. "When we heard CAUT was kicking around the idea of a grievance handling workshop we made a request for the course to be offered at Lakehead." The first run through was well received says CAUT's education officer Paul Jones. "Now, with feedback from the Lakehead participants, it will be fine-tuned and ready to tour again forthwith," he said. Local associations interested in this or any other CAUT course should contact Paul Jones (jones@caut.ca).
