Toronto Retirees Aim to Jump Start CAERA

The Retired Academics and Librarians of the University of Toronto (RALUT), in collaboration with retiree associations at Ryerson and York Universities is planning to hold a meeting of all such Canadian associations as part of Congress 2002 (formerly the "Learneds") on May 31 in Toronto.

On the agenda will be an attempt to revitalize the Canadian Association of Emeriti and Retired Academics (CAERA) which last met when Congress 2000 was held at the University of Alberta. The objective would be to give CAERA a more substantial organizational structure so it could play a more active role in coordinating and promoting the activities and interests of university retirees on a national scale.

The Toronto association will post information about plans for the conference on the CAUT-sponsored CAERA web site (http://caera.caut.ca) shortly and revive the e-mail discussion group associated with it. It will also be posting information on its own site (http://www.ralut.ca) so that anyone interested can follow developments on this front.

Academic retirees' organizations or retired colleagues interested in this project should contact Peter H. Russell, president of RALUT, at 416-923-4919 or by e-mail at phruss@aol.com or c/o RALUT, Robert S. Pritchard Alumni House, 21 King's College Circle, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON M5S 3J3; tel: 416-978-7256; e-mail : ral.ut@utoronto.ca.
