Carleton University academic staff members have voted 96 per cent in favour of strike action in an attempt to reach a new collective agreement. Main issues still on the table are salaries, benefits and workload. The union representing about 750 faculty and librarians at Carleton said there has been movement at the table, but that the parties remain far apart on the major items. The two sides have been bargaining for months for a contract that expired April 30. Meetings with a provincial conciliator are ongoing, but the union warns if talks are unsuccessful their members could walk off the job as early as mid-November.
