Agreement Ratified at Cape Breton

Members of the Cape Breton University Faculty Association have a new three-year collective
agreement, following two day of conciliation last month and a 91% strike vote in December. The agreement, which has been ratified by faculty and the university’s board, provides general salary increases of 2.9% per year and grid changes that amount to salary increases totalling 8.9% at the floor of the lecturer scale to more than 15% at the top of all faculty scales over the life of the agreement. Lab instructors and Librarian II staff will see increases ranging from 9% to 14%, and more significantly, the contract gives Librarian III staff a 16% salary boost at the floor salary scale and 29% at the ceiling to address a long-standing discrepancy.
