A tentative settlement has been reached between the University of Guelph and the University of Guelph Faculty Association on a first collective agreement for 826 campus faculty, librarians and veterinarians.
The settlement, announced March 13 after six days of mediation, follows more than a year of negotiations and a February membership vote on a 30-day deadline to get a contract or call a strike.
“We believe it’s a good offer,” said union president Glen Filson. “It addresses our number one issue — compensation and significantly entrenches faculty rights.”
Further details are being withheld pending ratification.
UGFA was certified as a union in August 2006.
