The determination and solidarity of librarians and archivists at the University of Western Ontario caused the university to modify its position to avoid a strike that was to begin on Nov. 2.
With no further talks scheduled, the parties reached a tenÂtative agreement late in the day on Oct. 30 with the help of CAUT assistant executive director Peter Simpson.
The librarians and archivists, represented by the UWO Faculty Association, had been without a
contract since July 1 and were seeking job security, fair evaluations and improvements to salaries and benefits.
Contract information sessions for UWOFA-LA members were being held at press time and details about the settlement were not available.
“The negotiations have concluded and the faculty association has a proposal to bring before the LA members, but we’ve agreed not to release the terms of the offer until the leadership speaks with its members,” Simpson said.
