Tentative deal in StFX strike

The 17-day strike by academic staff at St. Francis Xavier University is over.

The StFX Association of University Teachers reached a tentative agreement with the university on Feb. 13. As the Bulletin went to press, members of the StFXAUT were about to hold a ratification vote. Details of the agreement were to be released to the membership at the ratification meeting.

StFXAUT president Peter McInnis attributes the successful outcome to the commitment of StFXAUT members during the strike and to the perseverance of the negotiating team.

“We’re also grateful for the support we received from students, union and non-union staff at the university, other unions in town, our colleagues in academic staff associations across the country and CAUT,” he said.

Negotiations for a contract covering the StFXAUT membership had been underway for eight months.
