CAUT launches investigation into faculty of architecture at uManitoba

CAUT has appointed an ad hoc investigatory committee to examine and report on alleged problems in the faculty of architecture at the University of Manitoba.

The committee is to determine whether there has been interference with the duties and responsibilities of the heads of the department of architecture, whether there has been interference with the research activities of academic staff, whether there have been restrictions of academic freedom, and whether there has been interference with the functioning of committees. The committee may also consider other issues that may arise in the course of its investigation. The committee’s finding along with any recommended actions will be reported to CAUT.

The committee members are Charles Reeve, associate professor of liberal arts and sciences at the Ontario College of Art & Design, University of Winnipeg psychology professor Pauline Pearson, and Grant Wanzel, professor emeritus of architecture at Dalhousie University. Reeve is acting as committee chair.
